The 40G ATCA Backplane includes dual shelf manager connectors in slot 0 for redundant IPMB implementation and up to 400W/slot 48VDC distribution to each slot. The shelf managers on the left side of the backplane can be front-pluggable cards in slot 0 while allowing a full 14 slots.

ATCA-F140 40G AdvancedTCA Switch Blade
The ATCA-F140 from Emerson Network Power is a high performance, high bandwidth 40G switch blade for AdvancedTCA® platforms. This product is perfect for the most bandwidth intensive telecom applications such as LTE and 4G network build-out in general. Along with the maximum ATCA fabric bandwidth available, the ATCA-F140 includes several features to maximize ATCA platform cost effectiveness. Combining several ATCA® functions within a single blade design allows end users to maximize billable slots with revenue-generating application blades. This is accomplished with a combination of factory build options as well as several field options. Optional functions include telecom clock generation and distribution, SATA based hard drive devices (HDDs) and an AdvancedMC™ (AMC) site for general processing and/or packet processing functions.

ATCA-9405 AdvancedTCA Many-core Processor Blade
The ATCA-9405 can provide telecom equipment manufacturers with up to four times performance increase over previous generation ATCA blades for high touch and high throughput packet processing applications in the latest data-intensive network evolution. Featuring dual OCTEON® II CN6880 processors from Cavium, each with 32 cnMIPS cores running at up to 1.5GHz, the Emerson Network Power ATCA-9405 enables the implementation of packet processing applications at line speeds of 40Gbps in conjunction with Emerson’s industry-leading range of 40G ATCA platforms. The ATCA-9405 has been designed to maximize the deep packet inspection, security application processing and raw throughput of the OCTEON processors. In addition to two 40G ATCA data fabric connections that can operate active/active as well as active/standby, the ATCA-9405 provides for direct Ethernet cable terminations of up to 160Gbps via a rear transition module (RTM) giving a total maximum throughput of 382Gbps. To help manage this, the blade’s dual-core Freescale QorIQ P2020 processor implements sophisticated Ethernet switch management as well as local management functions. Free of such system management overhead, the OCTEON II processors can be dedicated solely to packet processing.

MTCA.4 is the latest open standard initiated by physical institutes with applications such as particle physics. The usability of double or mid-size AMCs and RTMs increases the available board space by 4 times compared with a MTCA system consisting just of single, mid-size AMCs.
